The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET-UG) is being conducted by NTA since 2019 for admission to the undergraduate medical education, with the approval of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare

Eligibility to appear in NEET (UG)

Eligibility for appearing in NEET (UG) : He/she has completed 17 years of age at the time of admission or will complete that age on or before 31 December of the year of his/her admission to the first year of the Undergraduate Medical Course.

Criteria for NRI / OCI / Foreign Nationals

Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), Overseas Citizens of India (OCI), and Foreign Nationals are eligible for admission in Medical /Dental Colleges subject to rules and regulations framed by the respective State Governments, Institutions, and the Government of India, as the case may be. The NRI and OCI Applicants/Candidates have to upload a Certificate from the concerned Indian Diplomatic Mission in the country of their residence in support of their claim as an NRI/OCI Candidate, along with their online Application Form for NEET (UG) – and retain the original of such document for producing it at the time of Counselling /Admission to the Courses covered under NEET (UG). Similarly, a foreign applicant for NEET (UG) shall also upload Documentary Proof

Criteria for NRI / OCI / Foreign Nationals

The Ministry of Home Affairs vide Notification dated 4 March 2021 specified the rights to which an OCI cardholder shall be entitled under the Citizenship Act, 1955.

Qualifications and Qualifying Examination Codes

  • A candidate who is appearing in the qualifying examination, i.e., class 12 in 2024, whose result is awaited, may apply and appear in the test but he/she shall not be eligible for admission to the Undergraduate Medical Courses if he/she does not pass the qualifying examination with the required pass percentage at the time of first round of Counselling.
  • The Higher/Senior Secondary Examination or the Indian School Certificate Examination which is equivalent to class 12 Higher/Senior Secondary Examination after a period of 12 years of study, the last two years of such study comprising of Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Bio-technology (which shall include practical tests in these subjects) and Mathematics or any other elective subject with English at a level not less than the core course for English as prescribed by the National Council of Educational Research and Training after the introduction of the 10+2+3 educational structure as recommended by the National Committee on Education.

(N.B: Candidates who have passed Class 12 from Open School or as private candidates shall not be eligible to appear for the ‘National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test’. Furthermore, a study of Biology/Biotechnology as an Additional Subject at Class 12 level also shall not be permissible.)

Examination Qualification Mark

  • Eligible for NEET (UG) -, the candidate must have passed in Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English individually and must have obtained a minimum of 50% marks taken together in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology at the qualifying examination as mentioned in the Regulations of NMC and DCI. In addition, they must have got a rank in the merit list of NEET (UG) for admission to Undergraduate Medical Courses.
  • All Category: In respect of the candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, or Other Backward Classes (NCL), the minimum marks obtained in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology are taken together in the qualifying examination shall be 40% marks instead of 50% marks for Unreserved and General-EWS Candidates. In respect of PwBD candidates as per NMC and DCI Regulations, the minimum marks in the qualifying examination in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (or Botany & Zoology)/Biotechnology taken together shall be 40% instead of 50%

Documents Required for NEET Exam

  • Latest Passport size Photograph in JPG format (size: 10 kb to 200 kb)
  • Latest Post Card size photograph (4” X6”) in JPG format (Size: 10 kb - 200 kb)
  • Signature in JPG format (size: 4 kb to 30 kb) running letter
  • Left and Right hand Fingers and Thumb impressions (size:10 kb to 200 kb)
  • Class 10 passed certificate in PDF format (file size: 50 kb to 300 kb)
  • Category certificate (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS etc.) in PDF format (file size: 50kb to 300kb)
  • PwBD certificate in PDF format (file size: 50 kb to 300 kb
  • Citizenship Certificate/ Embassy Certificate or any Documentary proof of Citizenship certificate in PDF format (file size: 50 kb to 300 kb)
  • Address proof of present and permanent address of candidate in PDF format (file size: 50 kb to 300 kb). All candidates are required to upload address proof (Present and permanent address) during the online Application Form of NEET (UG). The address proof may include AADHAAR Card, Domicile Certificate, Passport, Voter ID card, etc.

Pattern of the Test

The Test pattern of NEET (UG) – 2023 comprises four Subjects. Each subject will consist of two sections. Section A will consist of 35 Questions and Section B will have 15 Questions, out of these 15 Questions, candidates can choose to attempt any 10 Questions. So, the total number of questions and utilization of time will remain the same.

Mode of Examination

NEET (UG) – 2023 is a Pen & Paper-based Test, to be answered on the specially designed machine gradable OMR sheet using Ball Point Pen is provided at the Centre. Moreover tampering with the OMR at any stage will lead to debarring of the candidature for 03 years.

Duration of Test

The Entrance Test shall consist of 200 multiple choice questions (four options with a single correct answer) from Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (Botany and Zoology). 50 questions in each subject will be divided into two Sections (A and B). The duration of the Examination will be 200 minutes (03 hours 20 minutes) from 02:00 PM to 05:20 PM (Indian Standard Time) and shall be uniform for all candidates

Medium of the Question Papers

Drawing from the National Education Policy (NEP), the NEET (UG) -2023 is being conducted in English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.

How to fill OMR Sheet

  • Before Filling OMR Sheet, the Candidate should remember one thing that OMR sheets are evaluated by computer software. This software is very sensitive and can only read properly filled black coloured bubbles. Do not tamper or scratch the OMR sheet.
  • The candidate has a 10 digit Roll Number. Roll Number will be mentioned in the Admit Card.
  • The Candidate should ensure that 7 digit Test Booklet No. has been filled and marked correctly.
  • In the OMR Sheet, write the Candidate’s Name, Father’s Name, and Mother’s Name (in running handwriting) in the Name column box.
  • Do not fill in more than one option for any of the questions because there is only one answer, which is the most appropriate for all the questions.
  • The candidates are required to sign with time (in running handwriting) in the declaration column
  • Make sure that the CODE printed on the OMR Answer Sheet is the same as that on the Test Booklet
  • Mark Should dark and should completely fill the circle.
  • Each question correct carry 4 Marks and each wrong answer 1 mark shall be deducted from total score.

How to Fill Online Application Form

  • The candidate, before submitting the application form online, must ensure his eligibility to appear in the test. The candidate is required to go through the Information Bulletin carefully and be clear about all requirements with regard to the submission of the Application Form.
  • The Candidate should fill in complete correspondence and permanent address with the pin code, e-mail address, and mobile number (own Parents/Guardian only) for future correspondence.
  • Candidates must ensure that mobile numbers and e-mail ID filled in the online Application Form are their own or Parents/Guardian only as NTA will communicate through SMS or email on the given mobile number and e-mail ID.
  • Candidate should not give the postal address, contact number/mobile number, and e-mail ID of Coaching Centers in their Online Application Form.
  • Those Candidates who have passed (12th and +3 should fill Code [02 to 07] against the column provided for in case of Qualifying Examination
  • Candidates appearing in Class 12 in Current Year should select a qualifying code as 01.
  • The Application Form other than the one filled in online mode will not be accepted. The Candidates are not required to send the Confirmation Page of the Online Application Form or any other document to the NTA. However, the candidates are advised to preserve at least four copies of the Confirmation Page along with the proof of fee paid for future reference.

Registration Form

  • Candidate’s Name/ Mother’s Name/ Father’s Name as given in the Secondary School Examination or equivalent Board/ University Certificate in capital letters
  • Date of Birth in dd/mm/yyyy format as recorded in Secondary School Examination or equivalent Board/ University certificate.
  • Identification Type: Class 12 Admit Card with Photograph, School ID Card No, Election Card (EPIC No.), Ration Card, Bank Account, Passbook with Photograph, Passport Number or Number of any other Photo Identity Card issued by Government.NRIs Passport Number, Foreign Nationals/ OCI Passport Number/ Citizenship Certificate Number
  • Mobile Number and e-mail Address: Candidates must provide their own or Parents/Guardian Mobile Number and e-mail address only.
  • Provide complete postal address with PIN Code (Correspondence and permanent address) for further correspondence. PIN code of Correspondence, as well as a permanent address, should be given in the space provided for this purpose.

Step 2: Application (Fill in the complete Application Form)

  • The application particulars entered in Step-I can be edited before the final submission of the Application Form except for Mobile No. and Email address, which may not be changed after Step-I.
  • Category: General, General-EWS, SC, ST & OBC-NCL are available in the drop-down.

Choice of Examination Cities:

  • The candidate should select any two cities of their choice for examination of NEET (UG)

Medium of Question Paper:

  • Candidates opting for English/Hindi/Regional Languages would be provided Test Booklet in English + Hindi + selected Regional Language.
  • Academic Details (Class 10, 11 & 12): The candidate has to fill in the complete academic details of the 10, 11 & 12/Qualifying Examination. Candidates who passed should fill Code [02 to 07] against the column provided for Qualifying Examination. Candidates appearing in Class 12 in Current year should select a qualifying code as 01.
  • Candidate’s Photograph, Signature, and Thumb Impression
  • Upload All Documents in JPG/Pdf Format
  • Candidate’s present and permanent address proof: to be uploaded in PDF format

  • Any item like textual material (printed or written), bits of papers, Geometry/Pencil Box, Plastic Pouch, Calculator, Pen, Scale, Writing Pad, Pen Drives, Eraser, Calculator, Log Table, Electronic Pen/Scanner, etc. Any communication device like Mobile Phone, Bluetooth, Earphones, Microphone, Pager, Health Band, etc.
  • Other items like Wallet, Goggles, Handbags, Belt, Cap, etc.
  • Any Watch/Wristwatch, Bracelet, Camera, etc.
  • Any ornaments/metallic items.
  • Any food items opened or packed, water bottle, etc.
  • Any other item which could be used for unfair means, by hiding communication devices like a microchip, camera, Bluetooth device, etc

Allowed

  • Light clothes with long sleeves are not permitted.

Counselling and Admission

The selection and admission to Undergraduate Medical Courses seats in any Medical Institution recognized for offering Undergraduate Medical Courses is subject to fulfilling the admission criteria, eligibility, rank in the merit list, medical fitness, and such other criteria as may be prescribed by the Government of India, respective States, Universities, Institutions and Medical/ Dental/ Ayurveda/ Siddha/ Unani/ Homeopathy Colleges.

Admission Procedure

  • Admissions to all seats of Undergraduate Medical / Dental Courses will be done through NEET (UG)
  • All India Quota Seats
  • State Government Quota Seats
  • Central Institutions/Universities/Deemed Universities
  • State/Management/NRI Quota Seats in Private Medical / Dental Colleges or any
  • Private University
  • Central Pool Quota Seats
  • All seats including NRI Quota as well as Management Quota, are in private
  • unaided/aided minority / non-minority medical colleges.
  • AIIMS Institutes across India/JIPMER.
  • The Counselling for successful candidates for Seats under 15% All India Quota and 100% including 85% State quota seats of Central Institutions (ABVIMS & RML Hospital/VMMC & Safdarjung Hospital/ESIC)/ Central Universities (including DU/BHU /AMU)/ AIIMS/ JIPMER and Deemed Universities, will be conducted by the MCC/DGHS for Undergraduate Medical / Dental Courses.
  • The counselling for admission to the seats under the control of State Governments/ UT Administrations / State Universities/ Institutions shall be conducted by the designated authorities of the State Governments as per the notifications issued separately by the authorities concerned.
  • Nursing courses in accordance with their respective eligibility criteria / other norms/applicable regulations/guidelines/ rules. The NEET (UG) data will also be used for admissions to BVSc & AH courses under the 15% quota of VCI in recognized Veterinary Colleges. However, the Council has to approach the MCC of DGHS, MoHFW in order to obtain the said data of results.
  • AACCC (Ayush Admissions Central Counselling Committee), M/o Ayush shall be the counselling authority for AIQ with respect to BAMS, BUMS and BSMS courses under NCISM and BHMS under NCH.
